Omiš, Poljica & Cetina Heritage Experience

A full private day through the Cetina region, where a river canyon cuts down to the Adriatic and a peasant republic governed itself for six centuries. The day takes in the medieval pirate town of Omiš at the river mouth, the Republic of Poljica at Gata with its Soparnik tradition, and the spectacular viewpoints above the canyon at Zadvarje and the hidden coast at Vruja.

The journey

  1. Morning

    Omiš

The medieval town at the mouth of the Cetina, whose pirates raided the Adriatic from fortresses set into the cliffs above the river — still the most dramatic town position on this coast.

  2. Midday

Gata & the Republic of Poljica

The village of Gata and the history of the Republic of Poljica, a self-governing peasant community whose statute is cited as an influence on later democratic thought, with an authentic Soparnik experience — the region’s protected chard pie, baked under embers.

  3. Afternoon

    Zadvarje & Vruja

The viewpoints above the Cetina canyon at Zadvarje, where the river drops through a series of falls, and the hidden coast at Vruja beneath the Biokovo massif.
